Ok, it's getting kinda scary. The number of people I've had tell me that they firmly believe Obama is going to get assassinated in office if he's elected. Seriously. A lot of people are telling me this.

And they all agree that it'll be some right wing nutjob with a hatred for the black man.

I point out that this would cause an immediate race war that makes the Rodney King riot look like a small town bar brawl. And that the government can't afford something like that. Unless you jump on the conspiracy theory bandwagon and follow the idea that this is EXACTLY what the government wants for reasons known only to those nefarious souls in Washington. Or maybe the Illuminati.

Maybe there are those souls out there who will howl and scream and cry if Obama does get elected, cause there's a back man in a seat of power. But I would hope that there would be someone in those groups of racial haters that had the common sense to see that starting a race war means eventually the federal government is going to have to come in and fuck you in the ass without lube. Cause you did it on their watch, and started a whole ton of shit, and someone's got to pay.

Howl all you want, we've got right's protecting that for you. But leave the guns at home.

Virginia and Mark are already making plans to evacuate over here when Obama catches a bullet. Their neighborhood is predominately black, underprivileged, and filled with gangs and drugs. Ahhh, the joys of Section 8 housing. They fear that they would be #1 on the list, being some of the only white people in the area.

I really just wish that the elections were over. The building anxiety is driving me insane.

Personally, I find it highly doubtful that an assassination attempt on Obama would be at all successful. Frankly, I believe the Republicans want Obama in the white house because he is young and can be very brash and impulsive which he demonstrated in the debate last night after a little goading from McCain. After Obama is elected, the Republicans will do everything they can to undermine his presidency and make the democrats look incompetent, so they can try for a Senate/House of Rep majority in 2 more years, and then aim for the presidency in 2012 with "the new republican" party. I honestly believe McCain is a figurehead candidate, and every time I hear Palin talk it reaffirms my belief that she is a patsy who was put on the ticket to make sure McCain doesn't get elected by accident. After 8 years of looking progressively worse every day the republican party needs to let/force the spotlight on the democrats so they can go to the powder room and freshen up. Neither the republican party or the Democratic party wants anything untoward to happen to Obama, there for nothing will. I'm not saying an attempt or possible attempts won't be made, I'm just saying that I have enough faith in our Secret Service as well as the powers that be to figure that Obama will healthily survive his first term in office. That is how I believe it will play out based on my opinions and observations, I could be wrong. I think the racists will talk and yammer, and some may secretly hope, but I really don't think it would ever actually happen. Historically speaking, I believe the Republicans are trying recreate the Herbert Hoover/FDR events from the last century. The scary thing is it may work.

I'd like a tshirt, ball cap and bumpersnicker with that on them. *Hugs*

it is indeed scary to hear these things but I am chalking it up to nothing but desperation on the part of those who truly feel now how McCain is losing it. Embedding fear is one method of attack that we shouldn't give in to.

One would hope that by this day and age racism would be extinct but sadly people pass these things down to their kids and so the chain goes. Hopefully someday it will stop.

I, too, fear for Obama's life. Actually, I think the biggest thing keeping him alive right now might be the Republican knowledge that his death would make him a martyr, usher in a landslide for Biden/ Clinton, and wind up on their doorstep whether they had anything to do with it or not.

Once he's elected? Well, I jusy pray he sleeps in Kevlar pajaymas...

I don't fear so much for him being killed as for him being elected period. He just scares me ... not because he is black ... just something him. Seriously I have "Dead Zone" type images here. Not sure why. I don't like any of the candidates ... can I fill in mickey mouse??

Geez, wow, I hadn't heard anything about that. Where I am we're all much more worried about a McCain win and then *he* drops dead in office. A Palin presidency is unthinkable. A Biden presidency would suck, but not as bad as a Palin one. The question of race riots I hadn't really considered, though I suppose you're right about that. But that old "every 20 years the president dies in office" tradition went out with Reagan, so I haven't considered assassination to be likely in a long, long time.

A black man becoming president and then getting killed is such an old idea that it's been a joke source for many comedians.

This, however, doesn't dismiss the fact that it will be a very real threat. There is no one in the world who is immune to assassination. No one. Anyone can be killed off, no matter how good their security is. I'm not just writing this as some schmoe with an opinion; I'm writing this as a former security and anti-terrorism expert.

So with that in mind, consider how violent things became when MLK, Jr. was killed in '68. It made the Rodney King riots look like a fart in a hurricane. I genuinely hope two things: that Obama does become president, and that no one even comes close to killing him. In the even that it happens, have an escape route to a relatively unpopulated area planned out. The best defense is to not be around if it happens.
