This is for all the moms on my friend's list. I have quite a few almost moms here and I thought it might be a good idea to share ideas on birth plans.

So those of you that have done this, what did you ask for? What SHOULD you have asked for? What can a mom get, that might not be well known?

Come on ladies....communicate!

I'm not completely sure I understand this question because I'm doped up on Xanax right now. But I'll try.

My only advice is don't induce labor. Let Mother Nature run her course. "They" tell you that the risks of complications are the same, but they lie. They are greater with induction.

Apparently you can choose several different things. To have meds, to not. To have baby 1:1 immediately, to have birth coaches or partners, water birth, walking vs not walking.....

There's even ways to avoid blood work and stuff I hear.

I actually wanted a water birth, but neither time would my insurance cover a midwife, and I wasn't brave enough to go it alone. I think people who don't take meds are fucking nuts, but whatever floats their boat. (You should screw with Mother Nature a tiny bit....)

My friend [livejournal.com profile] angelbelladona gave birth to her second child alone at home and caught it on video. You should add her, BTW. She rocks, and you'd love her.

I don't know anything about births except for stuff I see on Discover Health and TLC.

I just know about SHOPPING!! Little products that make having a baby fun and entertaining.

My favorite is the PeePee TeePee. Yes folks, you guessed it. It's a terry cloth little itty bitty teepee for the baby's weewee to prevent the peepee from making a rainbow across the room when you change a little boy's diapers. Cutest little thing that it ALMOST makes me want one. Almost, not quite. I'll stick to the cats that I can feed once a week through a hopper.

Well lets see.. I really can list the things I don't want..

I don't want an episiotomy.. I want to tear naturally.
I don't want an IV or an epidural. The doctors can have a heplock if they feel they need it.
I don't want an induction. Babies come out in their own time and if a mother or baby is stressed labor will stall.. it's a natural mechanism.
No c-section unless it's life or death.
No breaking my water bag to speed up labor.
No antibiotics for just in case type senarios
I don't want to be forced to labor in bed on my back.

What I want:
A calm environment... none of this yelling push push push crap at me. A home birth would be ideal.
I want to be able to move and choose my own position for labor.
A tub of water I can sit in to help ease the contractions.
Perinium support & hot compresses
In an ideal world I want richard to catch the baby.
If there are no problems I want the baby handed straight to me.
I want the vernix rubbed into her skin... it's antibacterial.
I don't want the antibiotic eye ointment done to her immediately.
Once everything is done I want us to be left alone for about an hour so we can brestfeed & bond

Drugs.

Drugs because it HURTS. Anyone who says it doesn't is LYING. Epidurals are your friends.

Being NUMB is GOOD.

I agree with the "Don't induce". I did and it still took me 36 hours.

That is all...

Happy Mothers Day mothers out there!
