Apr. 2nd, 2014 02:06 amSo someone tried to break into the house tonight after I got home from work.
I had been home maybe 30 minutes, was relaxing with a little Facebook, when I heard the backyard dogs start barking. No biggie, they bark a lot. But it got Kharma (Chihuahua) and Gypsy (Border Collie mix) to start barking. Gypsy was making that "something's outside" bark....but I chalked it up to a stray cat or a shadow. But then Loki (Chihuahua) started barking.
Loki NEVER barks at ANYTHING.
So I got up from the computer and walked into the dining/craft room. That's when I heard this banging, like a shutter banging in the wind. Only we don't have shutters. As I walked into the kitchen, the banging increased. I lost my shit when I saw an arm reach over the back gate to bang on the kitchen window. I ran to the door and locked it, and ran for the phone and 911.
The banging moved from the back of the house to the side, and then the front as I called 911. I had just connected with an operator when the stranger got to my front door and began trying to kick it in, screaming "HEY!" and "Let me in!". I ran to the craft room and grabbed the gun and beelined it for the bathroom, where there are no windows for him to peep through and know where I was. Gypsy was on me like glue and positioned herself between me and the bathroom doorway.
After FOREVER he stopped kicking my front door. The 911 operator told me that police units were in the neighborhood, and that my next door neighbor had also called 911. Once she ascertained there were police in the area, she let me go. I immediately called Wes's job and freaked out over the phone to him. He told me to call my Dad (who has an arsenal) and that he would try and get home ASAP. I did put in a call to my Dad, but couldn't get him to answer the phone. But Wes called his parents and they came running.
Wes was able to get away from work, and came home to check for damage and to see what the situation was. It was then that my next door neighbor told us that they had caught the guy in the area and had taken him to the hospital. Apparently he was high on God knows what, and thought he was being chased. That led him to look for someplace to hide.....that someplace happened to be my house.
It's now 2AM, everything is secure, nothing was damaged (except my nerves), and the crazy person is in custody. And it's quiet again.
It's also very dark outside.
And very lonely in this house......just me and the dogs.
